In the garden I’m chopping and dropping the tired plants. So, I chop them off at the root, leaving the roots in the ground (not disturbing the soil structure) and leave the rest of the chopped plants on the ground. I’m creating a “nitrogen blanket” so to speak. Over that will go the mulch blanket and then the beds will be tucked in for the winter. Herbs will be clipped at the base and once inside, hung upside down to dry. The kale and chard I’ll continue to grow as long as possible, they are loving this turn toward cooler temps! The chard is looking the best it’s looked all season. There are still plenty of flowers blooming and bees still clinging to what they have to offer.
